"In a traditional Japanese garden, shrouded in mist, a couple has a secret intimate encounter, making love while leaning against a stone lantern.”

What makes this design extraordinary is that the apparent female figure is actually a kabuki actor, making this is a homosexual encounter. The latter still wears his makeup and cap for his role of the farmer Tsuchizo, who was in reality Prince Koretaka.

Highly coveted subject!

Antique Japanese color woodblock. Shunga (Erotic print).
