"One of Kunisada's best known works, 'An Appraisal of Sensual Pleasure (Shiki no nagame)' produced from 1827 to 1832, consists of a series of short narratives with dialogue and poems, closely connected with the four seasons, to each of which volume is devoted. In his erotic images, Kunisada puts the emphasis on scenes that are physically extreme, even a little grotesque, like the one set on a pleasure boat in which a woman is crouching, with clasped hands and one foot in line with the edge of the boat, while a servant touches her intimately from behind.
